A MESSAGE SENT FROM CALIFORNIA, FROM A CLASSMATE OF FR LOU SCURTI, FR MIKE RUSSO:
Lou —
Happy Holy Week — and Buona Pasqua!
Thanks for your email. Sorry to say, I will not be at the class reunion in May. Too much complication — with schedules and of course flying back to NJ from CA takes more time and planning.
Meanwhile, I took a good look at your website and overall media ministry.
I’m thrilled for you — and the work you have accomplished over so many years. What a benefit to the work of Christ and the way you have boldly forwarded your own ministry despite obstacles
Several years ago, I gave a talk at a preacher conference at the University of Dallas (and of course,Texas, I should have been clued into this) where they simply laughed at my suggestions about how to forward parish ministry with social media and websites like yours. This audience of priests and others simply did not get it.
…your efforts are important to the many who thirst for vibrancy and a personal outreach to so many disaffected souls.
I’m a big fan of Pope Francis, the best pope in my lifetime as a priest.
And because he engenders so much hope that when we look at conditions of our parishes and the feeble attempts of the bishops, the clergy of our generation — well, the pope’s task is daunting, and maybe impossible.
Keep doing your work, and it will count aplenty.
Take a look at my wordpress website, certainly not as complete as yours, but an attempt to continue the conversation with my own parishioners, and the people that I have touched over the years.
All the best, and let’s talk at some point.
I’m eager to learn more of how you do all of this. Do you have a double? Is there another Lou Scurti who takes a day off from time to time. I hope so!
Happy Easter, my brother — and all the best,
Mike R
